The Georgia State University Counseling Center’s (GSUCC) postdoctoral fellowship in psychology is designed for individuals who are interested in meeting the requirements for licensure as a psychologist and working with a diverse population in an urban university counseling center setting. The 2,000-hour APPIC member (www.appic.org/Postdocs) postdoctoral program meets all requirements for licensure in the state of Georgia, including a minimum of 500 direct clinical contact hours. Full-time, one-year postdoctoral fellows are provided two hours per week of individual face-to-face supervision with senior psychologists.
The training program focuses on developing the advanced generalist skills necessary to function as an independent psychologist and support for the fellow to attain licensure at the end of or soon after fellowship completion. Fellows are full-time staff members and considered advanced level trainees within the training program. They work a 40-hour clinical week with an estimated 15-18hrs per week scheduled for direct clinical therapy hours (individual and group) and 5-8 hours per week of walk-in coverage for direct clinical triage appointments depending on center needs. Fellows receive 2hrs per week of individual supervision from a senior psychologist(s) and 1-hour of post-doctoral group supervision with the Training Director focused on professional development and licensure progress. Fellows are also expected to participate and present in 1-hour weekly case conferences with the rest of the trainee cohort (doctoral interns) and full-time clinical staff.
