POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP
The Georgia State University Counseling Center’s postdoctoral fellowship in psychology is designed for individuals who are interested in meeting the requirements for licensure as a psychologist and working with a diverse population in an urban university counseling center setting. The 2,000-hour postdoctoral program meets all requirements for licensure in the state of Georgia, including a minimum of 500 direct clinical contact hours. Full-time, one-year postdoctoral fellows are provided two hours per week of individual face-to-face supervision with senior psychologists who have been licensed for more than three years.
The training program focuses on developing the advanced practice skills necessary to function as a generalist psychologist. Full-time fellows schedule approximately 15 to 19 hours per week in individual, group and couples therapy. Fellows also participate one hour per week in psychoeducational programming and eight hours per week of walk-in coverage of initial consultations, as well as triages and emergencies. The postdoctoral training program includes individual supervision from two senior psychologists and group supervision or case conference with other fellows on a weekly basis.
Postdoctoral fellows work in close collaboration with the staff of the Counseling Center with many of the same responsibilities as the clinical staff at the center. Fellows attend all weekly clinical meetings, training and professional development meetings and case conferences.
