VICTIM RIGHTS
Student Victim Assistance encourages students to be knowledgeable about the rights afforded to crime victims. Student Victim Assistance is available to help students understand and identify their rights and how to exercise them. Students who need assistance in navigating their rights or have questions about specific rights may contact Student Victim Assistance for help. According to the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council in the state of Georgia, victims have the right to the following:
- Reasonable, accurate and timely notice of any scheduled court proceedings or any changes to such proceedings;
- Reasonable, accurate and timely notice of the arrest, release or escape of the accused;
- Not be excluded from any scheduled court proceedings involving the accused, except as otherwise provided by law;
- Be heard at any scheduled court proceedings involving the release, plea or sentencing of the accused;
- File a written objection in any parole proceedings involving the accused;
- Confer with the prosecuting attorney in any criminal prosecution related to the victim;
- Restitution as provided by law;
- Proceedings free from unreasonable delay;
- Be treated fairly and with dignity by all criminal justice agencies involved in the case;
- Under certain conditions, be notified of the accused being on an electronic release and monitoring program;
- Be notified of an arrest warrant being issued for the accused;
- Be notified of the accused being prohibited from contacting the victim.

Hours of Operation
Student Victim Assistance is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 5:15 p.m. throughout the calendar year with the exception of university holidays.
After Hours, Weekends and University Closings
In case of emergency outside of normal business hours, on weekends and university holidays, call the Georgia State University Police Department at 404-413-3333 on campus or 911 off campus.
For non-emergency assistance, call Student Victim Assistance at 404-413-1965 and press "2" to speak with an on-call advocate. Student Victim Assistance staff will follow up on the following business day.
