COUNSELING RESOURCES
Faculty, staff, family and friends of students are often among the first to notice those who are encountering overwhelming amounts of stress. This stress can seriously disrupt academic progress, personal relationships and enjoyment of daily life. Parents and friends who are geographically distant may be uncertain how to best intervene to provide assistance and support. The Counseling Center's professional staff regularly provide consultations to individuals concerned about a student and are available to consult with faculty, staff, family and friends by phone or in person.
Counselors can offer support during business hours by:
- Clarifying the seriousness of the problem the student is having.
- Planning effective ways to let the student know of your concerns regarding their behavior.
- Developing a plan to refer the student to available sources of assistance.
- Learning more about university and community resources.
After business hours support:
- Call 404-413-1640 to report a concern to the on-call staff.
- If the student is in immediate, life-threatening danger or is in danger of harming themselves or another, call campus police at 404-413-3333 or 911 if the student is off campus.
To assist students seeking longer-term therapy or specialized intervention, the Counseling Center has partnered with Welltrack, a website designed to connect students with providers in the local community who specialize in college mental health and work with Georgia State students regularly.
Therapists are located throughout all 50 states & in Washington, DC. Whether you’re looking for a therapist in-person, online or both, Welltrack has you covered. Search for therapists by social identities, price, insurances accepted, schedules and more.
