Mrs. Phinizy uses a cognitive behavioral approach to therapy that integrates multiculturalism and social justice advocacy to empower clients towards increased introspection and self-advocacy. She also employs various trauma-focused treatments in her work including cognitive processing and narrative exposure therapy. Mrs. Phinizy’s clinical interests include working with individuals exposed to trauma and chronic stress and students experiencing emotional and behavioral dysregulation in ways that negatively impact their learning.
- Biography
Mrs. Phinizy was born and raised in Long Island, NY and lived in Anaheim, CA for one year prior to settling in Atlanta, GA. Mrs. Phinizy previously worked as a School Psychologist in a metro Atlanta public school district for 10 years prior to beginning her doctoral studies at Mercer University. She is the immediate past chair and current secretary of the Georgia Psychological Association of Graduate Students and presently serves on a licensure task force with the American Psychological Association. Mrs. Phinizy is married to a high school social studies teacher and is the mother of a rising soccer star son and a competitive dancing daughter.
